Generate and utilize you own energy and be grid-independent at the same time: Sun Invention now offers the extremely compact Plug & Power Island Grid Box, an easy to handle and therefore flexible solution. Apart from the Plug & Save solar module, all technical components are protected by a high-quality aluminum box.

Besides being easy to use and flexible, the self-contained system is modular expandable to adapt to the needs of its operator. Power classes which range from 150 W to 1.400 W (short-term rating) can be achieved by combining several Plug & Power Island Grid Boxes with a number of Plug & Save solar modules with a performance of 195 W (monocrystalline) or 250 W (polycrystalline). A continuous rating of ten percent of the short time rating will be permanently available.

Each Plug & Power System is adapted for an alternating voltage of 230 V AC. The solar modules are delivered complete with a fold-out support mechanism so the system can be adjusted to the position of the sun in a trice. This feature makes the Plug & Power System ideal for users who are in need of energy in various places such as performers, showmen, DJs, mobile marketers but is also adapt for summer houses, garden sheds and many outdoor hobbies, such as camping.

The solution for grind-connected areas

In grind-connected areas with problems regarding the stability of the energy supply the Plug & Power Hybrid can guarantee uninterrupted power supply. Besides producing energy for the current consumption the hybrid system also stores additional energy in its battery. In case of power failure the power supply of all devices and machinery connected to the Plug & Power Hybrid continues without interruption. When the mains power supplies energy again, the system responds by shifting the basic energy supply back to the grid and recharges its battery.

Private Grid Connected Roof Top Systems

Currently (as of May 2018) the Thai Energy authorities are establishing new laws governing the connection of Private renewable energy systems to the grid. Various incentives are being considered and once they become law, renewable energy systems will become more and more attractive with various incentives expected to encourage the adoption of systems.

As soon as these plans become fixed into the regulations we are expecting demand to go through the roof, and, of course, increased demand means increased cost. Renewable energy systems right now are being offered at extremely attractive prices and early adopters will see higher benefits than those who wait.

Expected New "Feed In" regulations

Operations incentives will be in the form of a "feed in tariff" of FiT. In the case of a Fit any power not used on site and which is fed back to the grid will be credited towards your electricity bill. This credit will reduce the cost of the electricity used when the sun does not shine. This arrangement with your electricity provider is called "net metering."

For areas that do not suffer frequent power cuts, the most efficient type of system is a grid connected system. Although these systems will not operate when there is no grid power, the lower cost of the system compared to those with battery back up means that they are generally considered to offer the greatest rate of return and installation cost break even.

 

Solar energy

Solar energy is energy that comes from the sun. This energy can be harnessed in two ways; by converting the light to electricity, known as Solar Power or, for hot water systems, simply using the heat, a system known as Solar Thermal.


Solar Power

The vast majority of Solar Power technologies use Photovoltaics (PV). Photovoltaics is a property of certain materials that allows them to be utilized to convert light into Direct Current (DC) electricity. The normal materials used in modern solar cells is typically silicon.

Solar cells themselves are combined into solar panels of all different sizes and shapes to suit any application or power requirement from a single solar cell powering a pocket calculator to thousands of panels combined to create solar power stations that generate sufficient power to supply whole cities.

The actual technology behind all these applications big and small is effectively identical.

The amount of electricity generated by panels depends on the strength of the light that is hitting the solar cells. The measurement of this light intensity is measured in “Full Sun Hours”. One full sun hour is the amount of solar intensity that will create 1000 watts of electricity in one hour with a solar panel area of 1 square meter. If the sun is more powerful than this, then you will get more than 1 full sun hour in one hour of time, if the sun is less intense due to clouds or haze, then you will get less than 1 full sun hour in one hour of time.

In Southern Thailand, the average number of Full Sun Hours a day is approximately 7. This is much higher than what is achieved in Europe but slightly lower than what is achieved in some desert areas.


Solar Thermal

Solar Thermal systems use the power of the sun to create heat for industrial and residential purposes. The most common systems are roof mounted systems that simply heat up water for use in showers, baths and washing water.

The technology is simple but effective and has been used for decades meaning that the technology has a proven record, is reliable and relatively low cost.

Cooling is also possible through solar thermal, this is an area of solar power that is growing at a fast rate. At the moment, the possibilities are limited due to high installation costs, but costs are dropping every year and in the future this technology is likely to be widely used.
